Mark SmallsHead of Creativity
How did you get here?
I graduated from the UEA Business School in 2006 with a degree in Business Management. I then worked for a Digital Agency as a Front-End Web Designer also turning my hand to print design, PPC & SEO.
I moved to an energy reduction & management consultancy in 2008, as a one man marketing machine covering both graphic and web design. During this time I was successful in turning a PPC spend of £10k into £80k of income.
I have been with Indigo Swan from the very start in January 2010 and as a result was in a great position to assist with a great deal of the foundation work, including the creation of the brand & design of our bespoke software.
What are you most proud of?
Played an impromptu bass solo at Wembley arena to 12,000 people, when supporting Biffy Clyro, whilst our guitarist changed a string.
An interesting fact
When I was 9 I was in a film with Jeremy Irons called Waterland (on-screen time approx 2.7 secs).
What do you do at Indigo Swan?
I am an ideas man and I believe you can improve pretty much all business challenges with clever, engaging, positive visual experiences.
My job title is Head of Creativity. I love solving problems with pictures & positive experiences. Over the years this has encompassed many, many things from folding pieces of paper (origami swans), specifying bespoke software to giving an impromptu acceptance speech at a national industry awards (energy consultants version of the Oscars).
My role covers any and all design elements, be it web, illustration or graphic. I maintain our brand and the communication of it. My strengths and interests also include understanding motivations (or what I call ‘Business Anthropology’), I’m confident in pitching/presenting, content writing, business innovation and marketing strategy.
