Will Jackdaw create a major boost for energy security?
You may have seen today that the UK Government has approved extraction from the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea.
We thought this would be a great time to re-share our video with Aimee, our Commercial Director, sharing her thoughts on the North Sea.
What does this mean for businesses?
Although it will start to supply UK homes and businesses from as early as the end of the month, this won’t lower energy bills this winter.
The key points from this morning’s announcement are:
- Jackdaw will start to supply gas to British homes and businesses from the end of this month
- The gas from Jackdaw won’t lower energy bills this winter
- Chancellor John Healey says a new “Energy Wealth Fund” using tax revenue from oil and gas – will help pay for “green transition”
- Prime Minister Andy Burnham says the government remains committed to net zero by 2050, but says it’s right to “maximise “the UK’s existing energy reserves”
- If you’ve got questions about the energy market or what current developments could mean for your organisation, get in touch.
