Indigo Swan is proud to be part of the nearly 6,000 UK businesses who pay their employees a ‘Real Living Wage’ rate as we believe Swans merit a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.
In 2016 the government introduced a greater minimum wage rate for all staff over 25 years of age calling it the ‘National Living Wage’. This legally binding hourly rate however is not calculated according to what employees and their families need to live on and differs depending on age.
The charity ‘Living Wage Foundation’ argues the governments National Living Wage is not great enough to meet employee’s needs and encourages businesses to adopt the higher ‘Real Living Wage’ rates they devised which is independently calculated each year based on the true cost of living. The Real Living Wage provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on and not just the government minimum.
