Between 10th – 18th September 2022, our Cases Team Leader Rich, will be taking part in the challenge of a lifetime, ‘Ride Across Britain’ to raise money for The Big C, Cancer Charity, on behalf and with the support of Indigo Swan. He will be travelling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, covering a total of 980 miles over the nine days. This will be one of the biggest challenges that he has ever taken part in, so we thought why not give him an ambitious fundraising target of £5,000 to match!
What It Entails?
The event takes place over nine days (10th – 18th September 2022) and he will be cycling the length of the country, from Land’s End to John O’Groats. It will involve cycling each day approximately 105 miles (for nine days back-to-back) with a night in a tent awaiting the end of each stage. The route will be varied and pass-through iconic landmarks and historic sites of Britain, from the rolling hills of Devon to the highlands of Scotland.
The Big C is Indigo Swans charity of the year. The work that the charity does is amazing and one that Indigo Swan are proud to support. When asked what made him sign up for this challenge, Rich replied:
“It’s something that has always been on the “list” of things I’ve wanted to do, but life has always got in the way (plus many excuses 😉) but after being unable to do so much during lockdown, I decided to put it off no more!”
Fundraising Page
We will be sharing regular updates of Rich’s training and progress leading up to the event across our social media channels, as well as updates during the event. If you would like to make a donation to this very worthwhile cause, you can do so via our fundraising page.
We have set an ambitious fundraising target of £5,000 for this event, however any amount you can donate will be greatly received. So far, we have raised 16% of our total fundraising target! We asked Rich what his training regime is and if he has ever cycled 100 miles a day before, Rich replied:
“I started training for this at the start of January and so far, (touch wood) the training is going very well. The training plan lasts just over eight months, and gets progressively harder each month, tailing off around mid-August to ensure I’m sufficiently rested in time for the starting line. Currently my training consists of approximately 10 hours of cycling per week.”
Rich also took part in the Norwich 100 for the Big C on Sunday 29th May which he used as practice for this event. The Norwich 100 was a biking event covering 100 miles around Norfolk’s country lanes. The route started at Norwich City Hall, down by the Broads, along the coast and then back past Blickling Hall.
