Sustainability Series: Apps For A Greener Lifestyle

One of the keys to successfully living a more sustainable lifestyle is collaboration, and in our fast-paced society it can sometimes be difficult to find ways to make those connections. Luckily, there are lots of clever-clogs out in the world who have coupled our love of our phones with ways to build communities, local or online, to make recycling and taking steps towards zero-waste easier!

Olio – Olio started as a food waste app, a solution to sharing any leftovers and such to keep things from going straight in the bin. They’ve had so much success with this and made a big impact across their users, that they’re now branching out to clothes, toiletries, and household waste!

Poshmark – Specialising in fashion, Poshmark connects people who have clothes, shoes, and accessories they no longer use, with those looking for a rare find or even just a bargain. Fast fashion is the highest cause of greenhouse gasses currently, so anything that helps us buy less is a big bonus!

Share Waste – Share Waste is an app that specialises in the recycling food waste with people in your local area who are composting, worm-farming, or keeping animals. Their goal is to divert organic material from landfill, while getting to know the people around you!

PaperKarma – This is a nifty little app for people who are sick of junk mail they don’t open or need. You simply take a photo of said post with the app, thereby removing yourself from that company’s mailing list forever – cutting down waste and carbon emissions in the process!

Zero Waste Collective – This is a sustainability lifestyle guide, whether you’re an old hand at green living and want some fresh inspiration, or if you’re new and looking for tips to get started! This one is less an app and more of a website, but no matter where you are in your sustainability journey, it’s definitely worth a look!

#Climate – Sharing climate news, and curating information to your own interest. Whether you want to know what’s happening globally or locally, this is a great way to stay in the know about sustainability issues!
