Real Living Wage Week 2020

|||

Indigo Swan is proud to have been an accredited Real Living Wage Employer since 2019. We believe it’s not only the right thing to do for the Swans, but it makes good business sense as well. We want each Swan to know the work they do and the time they spend with us is valued. We believe happy Swans lead to happy customers. 75% of businesses who pay the Real Living Wage say that it has increased motivation and retention rates for them.

Jaime our Head of Marketing said: “Being a Real Living Wage employer fits in perfectly with Indigo Swan’s values and vision. We are a people focused company and it goes some way to show how much we value the hard work and effort each of the Swans puts in.”

Real Living Wage week runs from the 9th – 15th November. During this time the updated rates are announced. It’s also an opportunity for businesses to host events and politicians to celebrate the movement. This year there are a number of online events you can get involved with as well as increased activity on social media. Nearly 7,000 businesses in the UK pay the voluntary wage rate and over 180,000 employees have received a pay rise as a result of the Real Living Wage campaign.

Hayley our Head of Finance said: “I’m proud that Indigo Swan are one of the nearly 7,000 businesses who pay the Real Living Wage. We are an accredited employer to show that we are committed to paying our Swans fairly for their hard work and in doing that so they can realistically afford to live. For me it is another demonstration that we are true to our values, in particular happiness first and how we do anything is how we do everything.”

One of the main focuses for Real Living Wage Week this year is to thank all the essential and key workers. Unfortunately, research has revealed that 1.3 million of these key workers have been found to be earning less than a real Living Wage and were working in, insecure working conditions. This included over half of care workers who are on the frontline of the crisis. We wanted to say a special thanks to all those who play a vital role in our workplaces and society. 2020 hasn’t been easy and we appreciate all your hard work and efforts in keeping us safe.

There are lots of benefits to becoming a Real Living Wage employer. 86% of businesses who pay the Real Living Wage believe it has improved the reputation of their business and 64% said it has helped differentiate them from others in their industry. Together we are taking a stand to ensure our employees can earn a wage which is enough to live on.

Brogan one of our Client Discovery Enthusiast said: “The best part of working for a real living wage employer is knowing your company is not only socially aware of financial pressures you may face, but also cares enough to do something about it.”
